5 Finger Food Recipes For Toddlers


Finger foods not only satisfy tiny hungers of your toddler they also keep your kiddos busy for a while. Giving cut fruits and vegetables to your kid is easy and good but this may seem boring after a while. You can try these recipes that will be lapped up by kids with both hands-

Sweet Potato Fries



You will need

  • Sweet potatoes- 2
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil
  • Recipe

Boil the sweet potatoes till they are just 40% cooked.

Peel them and cut into chips.

Then sprinkle salt and pepper on the chips.

Preheat oven to 250 degrees C.

Place the chips in a single layer on aluminium foil and sprinkle a little oil on them.

Bake the chips for 10 minutes after placing in a baking dish.

Sweet potato chips are ready.

Coated Corn Kernels



You will need

  • Sweet corn kernels- 1 1/2 cups
  • All purpose flour (maida)- 1/2 cup
  • Cornflour- 1/4 cup
  • 1 tsp chilli powder and black pepper powder- as per taste
  • salt to taste
  • Oil


Mix all the ingredients except corn kernels in a bowl with a little water.

Add in the corn kernels and coat well.

Heat oil in a deep pan and drop in the corn kernels individually in it.

Take them when they turn golden brown.

Cool and serve with or without a dip.

Potato Chat



You will need

  • Boiled and peeled potatoes- 2
  • Chickpeas – 1 cup (soaked overnight and boiled)
  • Curd- 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind Chutney
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sugar- 1 tsp.
  • Roasted cumin powder
  • Chat masala


Cut the potatoes into cubes.

Heat some oil in a pan and toss the potato cubes for a few minutes.

Add sugar to yogurt and mix well.

Mix potatoes and chickpeas in a bowl and add salt, pepper and chat masala.

Add in the tamarind chutney and mix well.

Top with yogurt, sprinkle cumin powder and serve.

Sabudana Vada



You will need

  • Sago (sabudana) – 1 cup (soaked for at least 3 hours)
  • Potatoes – 2 (boiled and peeled)
  • Onion – 1/4 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger – a small piece (grated)
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 10-12 (finely chopped)
  • Cilantro (finely chopped)
  • Asaefoetida – a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil


Mash the potatoes and add to sago.

Add in onion, ginger, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, cilantro and salt.

Mix well and make small balls. Press the balls to flatten them.

Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the vadas.

Serve to your toddler with tomato ketchup.

Quick Cup Cakes



You will need

  • Butter- 4 tbsp.
  • Fine sugar- 1/2 cup
  • Egg- 1
  • Finely grated zest of ½ small lemon
  • Finely grated zest of ½ lime
  • Finely grated zest of orange ½ teaspoon
  • Self-rising flour- 1 cup
  • Plain yogurt- 3 tbsp.
  • For the icing-
  • Confectioners’ sugar- 2 cups
  • Fresh orange juice- 1 tbsp.
  • Fresh lime juice- 1 tbsp.


Whip butter and sugar till fluffy. Add egg and beat well.

Add in the zests and flour. Blend nicely.

Stir in the yogurt.

Preat the oven to 350 degree F.

Line two mini muffin pans with 18 paper cases.

Fill the muffin cases with batter and bake for about 20 minutes.

Let them cool down.

For icing, mix all the ingredients in a bowl and beat well.

Drop the icing on cupcakes and let it set for 30 minutes.

Offer the yummy dessert to your little one.
