5 Snack Ideas For Pre Schoolers

Pre-schoolers do not go to school for long hours and so it is not of much use to pack them a full meal. Snacks are better and more easily finished by kids. And if your kid spends almost whole day in a day care centre then it makes sense to pack some snacks even if the centre provides food. You need some easy snack recipes for the purpose and they should be delicious too, not to forget the nutrition.

Crispy Banana Wafers


  • 4 medium raw bananas
  • 2 tsp salt
  • oil for deep-frying
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Water


Mix salt in water and keep aside.

Peel and slice a banana.

Heat oil in a wok and put in the banana slices.

Lower the flame and add in 2 tbsp salt-water. Mix well.

Let the chips get deep fried till they turn golden-brown. Medium flame is best for deep frying.

Take the chips out, drain the oil and season with black pepper.

Make more wafers in the same way.

You can store these wafers in an air tight container.

Cottage Cheese

Make cubes of cottage cheese.

You can mix these with fruits and season with black pepper.

Instead of fruits, you can also toss cottage cheese with vegetables like carrots and peas.

Oats Cookies


  • 1/4 cup cheese spread
  • 1/4 cup quick cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper


Preheat the oven at 180 degree Celsius.

Take cheese and butter in a bowl. Whips till the mixture gets fluffy and light.

Add in the oats, flour, cumin and black pepper. Knead a soft dough.

Roll out the dough into a sheet of about 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut out cookies with a cookie cutter of 2 inch.

Arrange them on a greased baking tray and bake for 15 minutes.

Store them once the cookies cool down.

Fruits and Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is so yumy that no kid can say no to it. If your kid loves peanut butter too, you can make a healthy snack in a jiffy.

Cut some fresh fruits like apples and bananas into slices.

Serve with peanut butter as a dip.

You can also spread peanut butter on each slice and serve.

Apple Halwa


  • 1 1/2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 1/4 cups grated apples
  • 1/4 cup grated mava
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • a few drops of vanilla essence


Heat ghee in a wok or broad pan. Add in the apples and cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame.

Then add mava, mix and cook for 2 minutes. Keep stirring.

Milk is to be added at this point. Simmer the mixture for 7-8 minutes while stirring.

Then add sugar and walnuts. Mix and cook for 7-8 minutes on medium flame. Keep stirring and let all the moisture evaporate.

Lastly add vanilla essence, mix and serve.
