Celebrity Mom – Aishwarya Rai

Celebrity Mom:  Aishwarya Rai

My daughter is my greatest blessing-Aishwarya Rai

Change is a constant factor in our lives, our choices decide the frequency of changes and these contribute to our growth and experience as human beings.  Needless to say motherhood is one life changing experience, a blessing for which I am thankful to God.

Bringing up your baby requires commitment and planning.  From the very start of my career as a model and then as an actor, I have always believed in giving my 100% to any and every project.  Be it films, endorsements etc, I have taken on only so much where I felt that I would be able to give it my best.  Ditto with motherhood, right from the time I had conceived I had promised that this would be my 100% commitment.

Motherhood is a full time job and wherever possible I would advise mothers to be there with your child till she is old enough to take care of herself.  With Aradhya, I was lucky enough to have the full support of my family specially my husband.  My first and only priority is my baby- ensuring she gets a healthy diet, sleep and lots of play.  A child’s health has direct bearing on your happiness as well, so be there with her- watch her grow up, her expressions, see her take her first steps, hear her first words, be there with her at every step of her journey.

The first one year is tough as I admit that I have had my scares as well when Aradhya had her first fever but I took good advice from my mother and mother-in-law who have both managed careers along with raising kids.  Their advice was clear- just as you are a part of her life; you need to slowly start making her a part of yours. Being a mom, it is only natural that you are fiercely protective about your baby, however kids have an amazing ability to adapt.  So as Aradhya turned one, I began to take her out with me.  Be it a short day trip to a temple or a sbrand endorsement event, she began to experience the events with me.  Today I am not worried about taking her across the world to attend film festivals or big events; she is able to hold her own and enjoys them in her own way.

Post pregnancy, women undergo tons of changes; weight gain is one of them. Overnight it seemed as if I had evolved into a whole new physical form.  Honestly it was not easy to accept the changes but again this was the last thing on my mind. Irrespective of what people around you might say, you alone are the best judge of your situation so don’t let them get to you.  What matters most are your health and the health and well being of your baby. Rest is immaterial.  Having said that, having a baby doesn’t however mean that you are perennially in sweatpants with messy hair.  Your baby is your life but you need to take care of yourself as well.  It is alright to pamper yourself once in a while by getting some ‘me’ time.  So getting a spa or your hair done along with maintaining a healthy diet and a regular workout will do wonders in boosting your self esteem and keeping your stamina high for the long nights and tiring days.

Mothers around the world are an exceptional breed. So whether you choose to work along with bringing up your baby or are a full time mom, your planning, commitment, resilience and passion will help you achieve your goals successfully.
