How to Give Turmeric to Kids
Turmeric is a root with many healing properties which cures many health problems. It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and is known as Indian saffron. Curcumin in turmeric can increase ones lifespan, protect liver, prevent fungus, kill tumor cells, lowers blood cholesterol and does many more. Your kid can be given turmeric to cure many health issues and even to prevent them.
Few ideas are given below.
For this you will need a turmeric root, few peppercorns, milk, water and honey.
Take a long turmeric root instead of powder since the root is more effective than the powder. Crush it using a mortar and pestle.
Crush few peppercorns as well. If possible get the white ones.
Take a cup of milk, a cup of water, turmeric and peppercorns, and boil them together. Simmer down the flame for about 20 minutes and check if the milk has reduced to a cup or not.
If you use only water then by this time you will be left with milk with thick consistency.
Turn off the flame and filter it into a glass. Add a tablespoon of honey and give it to your kid lukewarm.
For this tea you will need lukewarm water, shredded coconut, turmeric powder, cinnamon powder and maple syrup or honey.
Take 2 cups of lukewarm water and 3 tablespoons of organic shredded coconut in a high powered blender. Blend it well making sure coconut pieces aren’t left inside.
Mix this coconut milk, ½ to 1 teaspoon of turmeric, ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder and 2 or 3 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup. Give it to your kid.
Cauliflower Steaks with Turmeric
For this you will need cauliflower, salt and pepper, olive oil, grated ginger, grounded cumin, grounded turmeric and chopped cilantro.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the cauliflower into small steaks. Season all of them with some salt and pepper evenly.
Take a pan and heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in it and sauté the steaks in it till they turn golden brown. Now take them in a baking sheet.
Whisk 1 tablespoon of olive oil, cumin, ginger and turmeric together. Brush the same onto the steaks.
Roast them in the oven till they turn tender which may take 15 minutes. Garnish using cilantro and serve your kid.
Instead of making white rice, try making yellow rice once in a while and pair it with curry.
For this you will need rice, water, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, turmeric, salt, and olive oil or butter.
Rinse 2 cups of rice for few times and take 2 cups take water, 2 inch cinnamon piece, 1 bay leaf, 3 cloves, 1 teaspoon salt and ¾ teaspoon turmeric powder to it. Boil this over medium to high flame and cover with a lid. When the rice is cooked, remove it from the flame and keep it aside for 10 minutes. Remove the lid and separate bay leaf, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Add 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil and mix well. Yellow rice ready to serve.
These were the simple ways to give turmeric to your kid. You can give it in many forms by adding it to the curries.
